Content Marketing: 5 Tips for Superior Content

content marketing

I recently came across some very telling statistics about content management on James Fox’s blog, and boy was I surprised, yet encouraged. Content Marketing is a powerful form of marketing, and one that every business should incorporate (in a big way) into their overall strategy. According to these statistics, 90% of consumers find custom content useful, 90%! It also states that 60% of B2B Marketers intend on increasing their Content Management budget over the next year. Based on those overwhelming statistics, you should definitely reevaluate your current marketing strategy.

What is Content Marketing, you ask? Content marketing is any marketing in which you are both publishing and sharing content, in order to educate and attract your customers. It’s about communicating with clients and customers, rather than selling. This is typically achieved through blogs, articles, whitepapers, eBooks, case studies, photos, webinars, how-to guides, and more. By providing people and businesses with ongoing and valuable information, you develop leadership in your industry and inspire a loyal following.

This all sounds great, right? Yes, but content marketing takes a lot of thought and even more time. We have put together a few ways to make your content marketing easier for you and your business to succeed in this game.

1. Always do your research. Know what your industry is talking about, and create relevant content. I keep a feed and bookmark all of my favorite industry blogs. This way, I stay up-to-date on the latest topics and trends. As a content creator, you must be educated, so that you can share your own voice and leadership on current trends and topics. By keeping an RSS feed and bookmarking websites, blogs, etc, saves you time and makes doing your research for your upcoming content a lot easier.

2. Content marketing is not always about creating a new piece of art. Sometimes, it is enough just to add to the art piece. Let’s say you came across of great blog post about content marketing statistics (oh, wait, you did) and you believed that your readers would benefit from this post. Well, why not share it with them? While you’re at it, add your opinion. Sharing other people’s content (as long as you always credit them) is a great way to do all of the following: 1. provide your readers with valuable content, 2. Show them that you are in-the-know about your industry’s news, and 3. Saves you time, when you are out of your own original content.

3. Show them you care. If you are into nurturing leads, which, if you are a business owner, chances are you do (and should), then content is one of the best ways to do it. Content influences potential clients/customers at every stage of the sales cycle. It keeps them engaged and your business on the top of their mind. Using a lead scoring and marketing automation software, like BusinessEssentials, saves a business time and makes getting the right content in front of the right leads at the perfect time.

4. Be a Problem Solver!  What do you do on social media? You share content. Social media is a cost-effective way to show your fans and followers, e.g. potential customers, that you understand the industry as well as their wants and needs. This may solve a problem that they’ve been having or giving them insight into something that they’ve been working on. Social media is a great place to share your blogs, interesting articles, white papers, promote webinars, etc. Sharing this content does take time, however, it reaps many benefits for your business.

5. Write what you would want to read. Not only does this make writing less challenging and more inspiring, but also chances are that your customers have a lot of the same questions you do or did, they just don’t have the time to find out. That is why they turn to you. As experts in our industry, we are in a powerful position to provide our clients, customers, leads, etc with the answers they are looking for. For example, at BusinessEssentials, we publish content on CRM, marketing automation, sales and marketing best practices, social media, and so much more that we think our clients would benefit from. Content marketing is one of the most effective ways to engage and interact with your audience. It is not only a great way to nurture leads, but essential to prove leadership and expertise in the industry. With so many people researching potential purchases online, it is where you have to be.
