Selecting the Right CRM for Your Business

Why do business owners, marketers, and sales executives purchase a CRM? Well, if you are like most, you invest in a CRM to make your life easier. CRM, until recently, was seen as an enterprise solution, however, today, more and more SMBs are realizing their need to streamline their sales and marketing operations. Implementing a CRM into the daily operations of any business increases efficiency and promotes collaboration, ultimately resulting in growth. Success is the ultimate goal, right?

The perfect fit

So, you know you need a CRM, and have scoured the internet for information on the best platform, and everywhere you look, EVERYONE seems to have a different opinion. This can make things quite frustrating, and even discouraging on your journey to find the perfect software. However, there is a trick to make this search a little less chaotic for you and your team. The key to finding the perfect CRM is the same when searching for your perfect mate, does it meet your requirements and needs? With so many CRM offerings out there, it can be hard to decide which one really provides the solution to your challenges. That is why we have put together a few steps to follow on the search for the perfect fit.

Small to mid-sized businesses must base their selection of software on the following elements:

  • Product features: Does this CRM platform contain all of the features that you need to reach your ultimate goal? Keep in mind that you should already have a goal in place, so you can make sure you’re focused on where you’d like to be.
  • Price: Can your business afford this software? Do they provide the value that you are looking for?
  • Adaptability: Can the software provide what you need as you grow or is it a one trick pony?
  • Customizability: There is no ‘one size fits all’ when choosing a CRM. It must work for YOUR business, not your neighbors, not your friends, not your archenemies, YOUR business. The software you choose should be easily customized without a huge cost involved to meet the needs and requirements you originally outlined.
  • Customer service: Does that software provider give you the attention and support you need to get you up and running in a timely manner? This is critical, as you do not want to be left in the dark, with no direction, especially when implementing a new system into your company.

These parameters should guide your decision, but first, it is necessary to sit down with both your sales and marketing team to assess their needs. What will you be using this software for?

  • Email marketing?
  • Website tracking?
  • Marketing automation?
  • Social media management?
  • Project management?
  • Calendaring?
  • Event Management?
  • Mobile marketing?

These are just a few features that you should think about when defining the needs of your business. One of the biggest mistakes that we see, is businesses knowing that they need a list of different features, but not investing in a software that provides an integrated solution. Instead, they purchase any number of applications that do not integrate with one another, and are, in themselves, pricey and challenging to implement. If you are trying to make your life easier, then this just doesn’t cut it.

Many small businesses focus on the cost, but this is not the factor that should be your main concern. A CRM, if selected and implemented properly, brings your business to the next level, allowing for growth and increased revenue, so price shouldn’t be your guiding light here.

Selecting the right CRM for your business takes time, and should not be rushed. It should be a collaborative decision between both sales and marketing, since an integrated solution encourages this relationship.
