BusinessEssentials Weekly Roundup

By Alessandra Ceresa

We may have taken a week off, but that doesn't mean we aren't always on the prowl. As per usual, I have scoured the web, and found some pretty pertinent and interesting stuff this week. Running and growing a business, and that includes sales and marketing is all about the continuation of gaining knowledge. The more you discover, the more you learn, the more your grow.

1. Seth Godin's "I don't get it."

If you read this post weekly, you know how much I love Seth Godin. His blog posts are short, to the point, and get you thinking. This is one of my favorites so far. Enjoy.

2. The Top 7 Content Marketing Trends that Will Dominate 2014 by Jayson DeMers

This is a fantastic article for any marketer. It simply defines where content marketing is going in the next year. As we have predicted in the past, mobile, obviously huge, is a must for any business. Another trend? Content Director is the next big hire that most businesses should consider making.

3. A Randy Glasbergen Cartoon

I thought this cartoon was hysterical. This cartoon illustrates why a CRM is a necessary part of both a sales and marketing executives life. Most of us come into contact with a ton of people each day, and unless you are super human, it is a struggle to remember everything about everyone. This is where your CRM comes into play, and in a BIG way.

4. Why You're Not a Morning Person (and How to Become One) by Life Hacker

This is not explicitly sales or marketing related, but it is. Why? Because, if you read this article, there are a ton of interesting studies being done researching the differences in creativity, energy, etc in people that get up early vs. people that tend to work late into the night. I am a victim of both. There are many times when I find myself writing content way after the people around me have gone to bed. I have not determined when I produce my best content specifically, but I do know that I feel great when I wake up early and get stuff done!
